Cédric Blanpain, MD PhD at ULB Brussels is a world leader in skin stem cell biology and cancer initiation. Using sophisticated genetic lineage tracing in mice, his lab identified the cells of origin of squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, dissected how normal stem cell programs are hijacked during tumor initiation, and defined the clonal dynamics of skin homeostasis and carcinogenesis.
