Feng Zhang pioneered the application of CRISPR-Cas9 for genome editing in mammalian cells and discovered new CRISPR systems including Cas12 and Cas13. His laboratory at the Broad Institute continues to expand the CRISPR toolbox and develop applications in cancer therapy and diagnostics. He has co-founded Editas Medicine, Beam Therapeutics, and Arbor Biotechnologies.
