Yuan Bhatt has advanced understanding of pyroptosis as a mechanism of immunogenic cell death in cancer, demonstrating that gasdermin-mediated pore formation releases immunostimulatory DAMPs that activate dendritic cells and prime anti-tumor T cell responses. His research showed that engineered induction of pyroptosis in as few as 15% of tumor cells can trigger complete tumor regression through bystander immune activation. He characterized the non-canonical caspase-11 pyroptosis pathway in tumor-associated macrophages and its role in shaping the inflammatory tumor microenvironment. His work has informed clinical strategies combining pyroptosis-inducing agents with checkpoint inhibitors.
