Ying Yuan at MD Anderson developed BOIN (Bayesian Optimal Interval Design) — a widely adopted innovative Phase I dose-finding design for cancer trials that is simple to implement yet has optimal statistical properties for finding the maximum tolerated dose. BOIN and its derivatives (BOIN12, keyboard design) have been implemented in hundreds of cancer Phase I trials globally and represent a significant methodological advance in early-phase oncology trial design.
