Dr. Xiaowei Zhuang invented MERFISH (Multiplexed Error-Robust Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization), a landmark spatial transcriptomics technology capable of imaging thousands of RNA species with single-molecule and single-cell resolution in tissue. Her technology is being applied to dissect the spatial organization of tumor-immune niches, map transcription factor activity landscapes, and resolve subcellular RNA localization patterns in cancer tissues.
