Xiaokun Shu has developed innovative optogenetic and imaging tools for studying biomolecular condensates in living cancer cells. His light-inducible phase separation systems (optoDroplets) have enabled precise spatiotemporal control of condensate formation, revealing how condensate dynamics regulate oncogenic signaling. These tools have become widely adopted for dissecting condensate function in cancer biology and for screening condensate-modulating therapeutics.
