Wendell Lim at UCSF pioneered logic-gated CAR-T systems using synthetic signaling circuits, including synNotch receptors that restrict CAR activation to cells expressing specific combinatorial antigen patterns. His AND-gate CAR designs dramatically improve tumor selectivity while sparing normal tissue with shared antigens. His synthetic biology approach is transforming precision cell engineering for solid tumor immunotherapy.
