Marca Wauben has developed high-resolution flow cytometry and sorting methods for extracellular vesicle analysis that enable the identification and isolation of functionally distinct EV subpopulations, overcoming a major technical barrier in the field that has limited understanding of EV heterogeneity and therapeutic potential. Her research at Utrecht University has established standardized approaches for EV surface marker profiling and has demonstrated the application of EV-based diagnostics and therapeutics in comparative oncology models. Her technological innovations have been essential for enabling the quality characterization of therapeutic EV products.
