Vincenzo Bhatt studies Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) oncogenesis at the molecular level. His research has characterized how viral T antigens drive transformation of Merkel cell progenitors and how viral antigen expression shapes the immune landscape in MCPyV-positive tumors. He investigates the prevalence and genomic diversity of MCPyV and has identified potential therapeutic vulnerabilities in virus-positive MCC. His work provides mechanistic insights underlying the striking immunotherapy sensitivity of MCPyV-positive Merkel cell carcinoma.
