Vincent Favaudon at Institut Curie was instrumental in rediscovering and characterizing FLASH radiotherapy — the delivery of radiation at ultra-high dose rates (>40 Gy/s, vs. conventional 0.1-1 Gy/s) — which appears to spare normal tissues while maintaining anti-tumor efficacy. His foundational preclinical studies demonstrating FLASH's normal tissue sparing effect in lung, intestine, and brain have sparked the field of FLASH radiotherapy now entering clinical investigation.
