Vincent Favaudon is the discoverer of the FLASH radiotherapy effect, demonstrating in a landmark 2014 study that ultra-high dose rate radiation (>40 Gy/s) achieves equivalent tumor control to conventional radiation while dramatically reducing normal tissue toxicity. His work established the oxygen depletion hypothesis as a potential mechanism for the FLASH sparing effect. This discovery has sparked a revolution in radiation oncology research and clinical translation.
