Prof. Vijay Kuchroo is the discoverer of TIM-3 (T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-3) and a preeminent authority on co-inhibitory receptors in cancer and autoimmunity. His laboratory characterizes how TIM-3 and LAG-3 co-expression on exhausted tumor-infiltrating T cells creates a state of deep immunosuppression. His foundational work has driven clinical development of multiple TIM-3 and LAG-3 antibodies now in cancer immunotherapy trials.
