Roser Vento-Tormo developed CellPhoneDB, the widely used computational tool for inferring cell-cell interactions from single-cell transcriptomics data that has become essential for analyzing tumor microenvironment communication networks. Her work integrating single-cell RNA sequencing with spatial transcriptomics has enabled mapping of cancer cell niches and their interactions with stromal and immune cells in situ. Her tissue microenvironment characterization approaches have revealed how spatial organization of the tumor ecosystem influences immunotherapy response.
