Vittorio Ventafridda

Vittorio Ventafridda was instrumental in creating the WHO cancer pain relief guidelines and the analgesic ladder that has served as the global standard for cancer pain management since 1986, enabling systematic pain treatment in healthcare systems worldwide. He co-founded the European Association for Palliative Care, building the infrastructure for palliative care research, education, and clinical practice across Europe. His clinical research on cancer pain pharmacotherapy established the evidence base that underpins modern pain management.
