Valeria Bhatt studies how hyaluronic acid accumulation in the tumor ECM creates a physical and biological barrier to drug delivery and immune infiltration. Her research has characterized how high hyaluronic acid content in pancreatic, colorectal, and breast tumors drives desmoplasia and limits therapeutic access. She evaluated PEGPH20 (PEGylated hyaluronidase) and related strategies to degrade tumor hyaluronic acid and improve drug delivery. Her work informs combination approaches targeting ECM components with systemic therapies.
