Paul Turner has pioneered the concept of evolutionary phage therapy that exploits trade-offs between phage resistance and antibiotic susceptibility in bacteria associated with cancer infections. His work shows that bacteria evolving resistance to engineered phages become re-sensitized to antibiotics, creating an evolutionary trap. He has advanced strategies for using phage-antibiotic synergies in cancer patients with multidrug-resistant infections.
