Tsutomu Suzuki is a world authority on tRNA modifications, having identified numerous novel modifications and their biosynthetic enzymes. His work revealed that cancer cells exploit tRNA modification reprogramming to enhance translation of oncogenic mRNAs with biased codon usage. He has uncovered how mitochondrial tRNA modification defects contribute to metabolic reprogramming in cancer.
