Trevor Graham has revealed the evolutionary dynamics of intestinal stem cells that underpin colorectal cancer initiation. His work using lineage tracing and single-cell genomics demonstrated how mutations accumulate in intestinal crypts through neutral drift and how field cancerization establishes pre-malignant clones. He has developed computational methods for reconstructing the evolutionary history of colorectal tumors from their genetic diversity.
