Tom Hei

Tom Hei has been a leading investigator of radiation bystander effects and non-targeted effects of ionizing radiation for over two decades. His laboratory demonstrated that bystander effects are mediated through oxidative stress and gap junction communication between irradiated and neighboring cells. This work has implications for understanding dose-response at low doses and the biological consequences of radiation therapy at the field margins.
