Thomas Cox has developed cutting-edge ECM proteomics approaches to characterize the tumor matrisome, identifying ECM protein signatures that predict patient prognosis and therapeutic response across multiple cancer types. His mass spectrometry-based matrisome analysis has revealed how tumor-specific ECM remodeling creates distinct mechanical and biochemical environments that influence cancer cell behavior. He has identified ECM-derived biomarkers for detecting desmoplastic tumors and monitoring response to anti-fibrotic therapies. His work on ECM-targeted therapeutic strategies is advancing toward clinical translation for fibrotic cancers.
