Bence Szalai applies systems biology approaches including phosphoproteomics and signaling network modeling to understand and predict drug combination synergy in cancer, demonstrating that network-level analysis of signaling pathway rewiring under drug treatment can identify vulnerability nodes for synergistic combination targeting. His research at Semmelweis University has shown that measuring signaling network responses to individual drugs can predict which combinations will show synergy by identifying compensatory pathway activation that can be blocked by a second agent. His work provides mechanistic understanding of why certain drug combinations synergize in specific molecular contexts.
