Sue Yom at UCSF has contributed to head and neck cancer radiation oncology research, including clinical trials of de-escalated treatment for HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer. Multiple de-escalation trials (NRG-HN002, TROG 12.01, MC1273) are investigating whether HPV-positive OPSCC patients can receive reduced-intensity treatment compared to current standard doses while maintaining excellent outcomes, potentially reducing long-term toxicities in this good-prognosis population.
