Isabelle Soerjomataram is Deputy Head of the IARC Cancer Surveillance Branch and a key contributor to GLOBOCAN, the global cancer incidence and mortality estimation project. Her research has characterized the epidemiological transition of cancer in LMICs, documenting how infection-associated cancers remain dominant while lifestyle-related cancers are rapidly increasing. Her work on preventable cancer fractions has quantified the potential impact of infection elimination on cancer burden in tropical regions.
