Dennis Slamon discovered that HER2 overexpression drives aggressive breast cancer and developed trastuzumab (Herceptin), transforming HER2-positive breast cancer from the worst to one of the most treatable subtypes. His bench-to-bedside work is one of the greatest success stories in cancer research. The impact of his discovery continues to expand with new HER2-directed agents including T-DXd.
