Debra Silverman is the chief of the NCI Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch, whose landmark Diesel Exhaust in Miners Study provided definitive evidence that diesel exhaust causes lung cancer. Her research on bladder cancer occupational risk factors and pancreatic cancer environmental contributions has been foundational for IARC carcinogen evaluations. Her rigorous dose-response analyses in occupational cohorts have set the standard for quantitative cancer risk assessment.
