Sean Morrison

Sean Morrison studies the properties of normal and cancer stem cells with emphasis on metabolic regulation of stem cell function. His laboratory discovered that melanoma cells exploit fatty acid oxidation to survive in the bloodstream during metastasis and identified antioxidant mechanisms that enable cancer stem cell survival in unfavorable environments. His work has revealed therapeutic vulnerabilities in the metabolic dependencies of cancer stem cells. He is an HHMI Investigator and has received numerous awards for contributions to stem cell biology.
