Sarah Bhatt investigates inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) as therapeutic targets in cancer. Her research at Genentech characterized how XIAP and other IAP family members suppress caspase activity to confer treatment resistance in solid tumors. She developed small-molecule IAP antagonists and assessed their activity as single agents and in combination with standard chemotherapy. Her work has contributed to the development of several clinical-stage IAP inhibitors currently in oncology trials.
