Sanford Markowitz is a leading expert in Lynch syndrome and mismatch repair deficiency in colorectal cancer. His laboratory has made important contributions to understanding how MMR deficiency drives cancer development and how Lynch syndrome carriers can be identified and counseled. He has studied TGF-beta receptor mutations as key downstream targets in MSI colorectal cancers. His work on epigenetic silencing mechanisms in colorectal cancer prevention has identified potential chemoprevention strategies for Lynch syndrome patients. He directs the Case GI Cancer Program.
