Sandra Bhatt

Sandra Bhatt is an expert in the surgical management of perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (Klatskin tumors), among the most surgically complex malignancies. Her research has advanced surgical techniques for achieving R0 resection in Klatskin tumors including combined liver resection and vascular reconstruction. She has characterized prognostic factors for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma including the Bismuth classification, vascular involvement, and lymph node status that determine resectability and outcomes. Her work on neoadjuvant therapy approaches including photodynamic therapy and liver transplantation protocols for select patients with unresectable perihilar cholangiocarcinoma has expanded the treatment options for this disease.
