Richard Jude Samulski was the first to clone the AAV genome and is a foundational figure in the AAV gene therapy field. He founded Asklepios BioPharmaceutical and directed the UNC Gene Therapy Center for decades. His work has enabled approved AAV gene therapies and continues to advance cancer vector development.
