Samuel Bhatt

Samuel Bhatt is an expert in aflatoxin-associated hepatocellular carcinoma, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia where dietary aflatoxin exposure and HBV coinfection drive enormous HCC burden. His research characterized the TP53 R249S hotspot mutation as a signature of aflatoxin-induced carcinogenesis and developed urinary aflatoxin biomarkers for exposure assessment. He has led intervention studies evaluating biomarker-guided aflatoxin mitigation strategies including grain sorting and HBV vaccination impact. His work informs global HCC prevention in high-burden regions.
