Richard Young has made landmark contributions to understanding how super-enhancers drive gene expression through the formation of phase-separated condensates containing Mediator, RNA Pol II, and transcription factors. His work revealed that oncogenic transcription factors hijack condensate biology to activate cancer gene programs. These insights have opened new therapeutic avenues for disrupting aberrant transcriptional condensates in cancer.
