Richard Vile has pioneered engineering of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) and other RNA viruses as oncolytic agents. His research has demonstrated that oncolytic viruses can be armed with immunostimulatory transgenes to convert immunologically cold tumors to hot. He has published extensively on oncolytic virus-induced bystander effects and the abscopal potential of combined local and systemic oncolytic approaches.
