Co-led the landmark 2015 Lancet Commission on Global Surgery, which revealed that 5 billion people cannot access safe surgical care and that cancer surgical deficits alone account for over 1.5 million preventable deaths annually, catalyzing the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer and surgical oncology investment commitments.
Cancer Care in Conflict and Fragile States
Pioneered systematic research on cancer burden in conflict zones, documenting collapsed cancer systems in Syria, Iraq, and Yemen and co-developing the first international framework for humanitarian oncology care that has been applied by MSF, ICRC, and WHO in seven active conflict settings.
