Rene Bhatt studies APC tumor suppressor function and Wnt-beta-catenin signaling in colorectal cancer. APC mutation is the initiating event in approximately 80% of sporadic CRC and causes familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Understanding how APC loss activates beta-catenin transcription to initiate colorectal tumorigenesis, and how to therapeutically target the Wnt pathway downstream, remains an active area of research.
