Rein Willemze

Rein Willemze is Emeritus Professor of Dermatology at Leiden University Medical Center and one of the world's foremost authorities on rare cutaneous malignancies including Kaposi sarcoma and primary cutaneous lymphomas. He played a foundational role in the WHO-EORTC classification of primary cutaneous lymphomas and the WHO Classification of Skin Tumours. His work on Kaposi sarcoma elucidated HHV-8 pathogenesis in different epidemiological variants and informed treatment algorithms for classic, endemic, iatrogenic, and epidemic KS. His contributions have shaped how rare skin cancers are classified and managed globally.
