Ravi Bhatt developed and validated the concept of tumor-educated platelets (TEPs) as a liquid biopsy approach for cancer detection, demonstrating that platelets sequester tumor-derived RNA and reflect the cancer transcriptome. His laboratory showed that mRNA profiling of platelet-isolated RNA achieves high sensitivity and specificity for cancer detection and localization across multiple cancer types. He demonstrated that platelet RNA signatures can distinguish cancer types and identify actionable mutations relevant for treatment selection. His TEP liquid biopsy technology is being advanced toward clinical validation studies.
