Immo Prinz elucidated the developmental programs of gamma-delta T cell subsets in the thymus, demonstrating that functionally distinct IL-17-producing and IFN-gamma-producing gamma-delta T cells are programmed during thymic selection through distinct TCR signal strengths and transcription factor networks. His generation of gamma-delta T cell reporter mouse models enabled real-time tracking of gamma-delta T cell responses in tumor models, revealing their rapid recruitment kinetics and early anti-tumor effector functions. His work defined how gamma-delta T cell functional heterogeneity is established developmentally and influences tumor immunity.
