Pierre Montay-Gruel demonstrated the remarkable neuroprotective effects of FLASH radiotherapy, showing that FLASH whole-brain irradiation preserves cognitive function and hippocampal neurogenesis that are destroyed by conventional dose-rate radiation. His preclinical studies in mouse models provided compelling evidence that FLASH can deliver therapeutic brain doses while avoiding radiation-induced cognitive decline, a major concern in brain cancer and prophylactic cranial irradiation.
