Pier Giuseppe Pelicci made landmark contributions to understanding the molecular biology of ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma, including characterizing the oncogenic properties of the NPM-ALK fusion protein arising from t(2;5) translocation. His translational work revealed how NPM-ALK drives cell proliferation and survival through multiple downstream pathways, informing the development of ALK inhibitors in ALCL. He is a pioneer in cancer molecular oncology.
