Philippe Merle is a French hepatologist and liver cancer specialist who has contributed to HCC diagnosis, staging, and treatment including the management of HBV-associated HCC. He has been involved in clinical trials of systemic therapies and locoregional approaches for HCC. His translational research investigates biomarkers of HCC development in cirrhotic patients and mechanisms of oncogenesis. He has contributed to French and European guidelines for HCC surveillance and treatment and serves on the editorial boards of hepatology journals.
