Peter Jones is a pioneer of DNA methylation research and epigenetic cancer therapy. His foundational work on 5-azacytidine and decitabine established DNMT inhibitors as cancer therapeutics and revealed that DNA methylation is the primary mechanism silencing transposable elements in mammalian cells. His insights into how demethylation reactivates TEs to trigger immune responses laid the groundwork for viral mimicry-based immunotherapy combinations.
