Peter Greenwald at NCI directed large-scale chemoprevention trials including the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial (BCPT) that established tamoxifen for primary prevention in high-risk women — the first FDA approval for cancer chemoprevention. His leadership in the NCI cancer prevention programs and his contributions to establishing the evidence base for dietary and pharmacological cancer prevention have been foundational.
