Charles Perou defined the intrinsic molecular subtypes of breast cancer (luminal A, luminal B, HER2-enriched, basal-like, normal-like) in foundational 2000 and 2001 publications. He co-developed PAM50 and led the TCGA breast cancer project. He is a leader in breast cancer genomics at UNC.
