Paul Sugarbaker

Paul Sugarbaker pioneered cytoreductive surgery (CRS) combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for peritoneal surface malignancies, including colorectal peritoneal metastases, pseudomyxoma peritonei, and peritoneal mesothelioma. His decades of surgical innovation at MedStar Washington Hospital Center established the technical standards for HIPEC delivery, peritonectomy procedures, and patient selection.
