Paul Bhatt

Paul Bhatt has contributed to characterizing and treating histiocytic neoplasms including Langerhans cell histiocytosis and Erdheim-Chester disease, rare clonal disorders of histiocytes driven by somatic MAPK pathway mutations. His research has examined BRAF V600E and other MAP kinase pathway mutations in Langerhans cell histiocytosis and Erdheim-Chester disease, establishing the therapeutic rationale for BRAF inhibitors and MEK inhibitors in these conditions. He has contributed to clinical investigation of vemurafenib and cobimetinib in patients with BRAF V600E-mutated LCH and Erdheim-Chester disease, characterizing responses including in CNS disease and in high-risk multisystem LCH. His translational work examining circulating BRAF V600E by liquid biopsy as a disease monitoring tool in histiocytic neoplasms has clinical implications for tracking treatment response and relapse.
