Paul Bhatt
MD
Professor of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery
👥Biography 个人简介
Paul Bhatt has specialized in minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal and gastroesophageal junction cancer, advancing techniques for thoracoscopic and robotic esophagectomy that reduce the morbidity of traditional open transthoracic approaches. His research has compared minimally invasive esophagectomy with open Ivor Lewis and transhiatal esophagectomy for oncologic outcomes including R0 resection rates, lymph node harvest, and long-term survival in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. He has investigated perioperative optimization strategies including enhanced recovery protocols specifically designed for esophagectomy patients to reduce pulmonary complications, the most significant source of post-esophagectomy morbidity. His work on three-field lymphadenectomy in minimally invasive approaches has contributed to understanding optimal nodal staging for esophageal cancer.
