Patrick Bhatt investigates the DNA methylation landscape of glioblastoma and high-grade gliomas and its utility for molecular tumor classification. His research has contributed to the development of DNA methylation-based brain tumor classifiers that identify molecular subtypes with distinct biology and clinical behavior beyond classical histological classification. He has characterized the epigenomic consequences of IDH mutation in gliomas including the G-CIMP methylation phenotype and its relationship to ATRX and TERT alterations. His work on MGMT promoter methylation as a predictive biomarker for alkylating agent sensitivity has advanced precision treatment selection for GBM patients.
