Otto Warburg (deceased 1970) was awarded the 1931 Nobel Prize for work on cellular respiration and is the originator of the Warburg effect. His observation that tumors prefer aerobic glycolysis defined cancer metabolism as a field. Modern oncology continues to investigate his foundational ideas.
