Nicholas McGranahan has made seminal contributions to understanding the genomic mechanisms of immune evasion in cancer. His work revealed that loss of heterozygosity at HLA loci (HLA-LOH) occurs in 40% of non-small cell lung cancers, enabling immune escape by eliminating presentation of immunogenic neoantigens. He has mapped the landscape of B2M mutations and other antigen presentation defects across cancer types.
